Tahquamenon Falls – Upper Falls

Located in an aged, pristine Michigan forest, Tahquamenon Falls is a gem of Upper Peninsula. Tahquamenon Falls State Park is among one of the most visited Michigan State Parks, and one of the most popular UP waterfall viewing sites. The third mightiest waterfall east of the Mississippi, the Upper Falls captivates all of its onlookers with spectacular waterfall views. Cascading from the Tahquamenon Rivermouth Unit 20 miles upstream, the Upper Tahquamenon Falls boast a roughly 50 foot drop and span 200 feet across. Enjoyable in any season, the waterfalls dark, tannin-colored water shines in summer sunlight and contrasts beautifully against a fresh winter snowfall. As you walk along paved trails and boardwalks guiding you through the largest stand of old growth trees in Michigan, look up and admire some of the 300 species of birds the forest supports. Everything existing in harmony, Tahquamenon Falls is home to a unique Michigan ecosystem, nurtured by Lake Superior. With excitement waiting at every stop – a day at Tahquamenon Falls State Park is more than an adventure, it’s a memory.

Tahquamenon Falls – Lower Falls

Tahquamenon Falls State Park, one of Michigan’s best state parks, is known for spectacular waterfall views. The lower portion of Tahquamenon Falls is comprised of a beautiful, smaller, set of cascading waterfalls. Inviting viewers to venture to the island to get up close with the falls. Lower Tahquamenon Falls also offers some of the best fishing in the Tahquamenon River, from northern pike and muskies to walleye and brown trout! In the morning, bald eagles have been known to fish the waters around the lower falls. With nothing but tall forests surrounding the area, the wooded journey brings you to find peace, beauty and wonder when visiting Lower Tahquamenon waterfalls. Located 20 miles from the Tahquamenon Rivermouth Unit and an easy drive to the Tahquamenon Logging Museum, the lower falls are a must see. You will leave loving the Upper Peninsula waterfalls and all they have to offer!

Tahquamenon Falls – Rivermouth

Stop for a day or stay for a while, there is plenty to do at the Tahquamenon Rivermouth. Where the Tahquamenon River meets majestic Whitefish Bay, nature has formed its own wildlife preserves. Each wildlife preserve is home to plenty of amazing plants and animals. With miles of sandy shorelines, enjoying the water is a given. In this area you’ll also find some of the best UP paddling experiences through the river and its tributaries. If you’re up for it, explore nearby Marsh Island’s hidden coves, or find UP hike opportunities along the Emerson Trail, where you’ll be able to listen for songbirds. For the fisherman in you, try your luck on the river, or simply kick back and relax along the Michigan shorelines.
